8 Best Travel Face Mask

ckanani-facemasks-2.jpg

In a perfect world we would all have both the time and the money to get a facial once a week. Unfortunately that is not the case for most (myself included), but luckily we do have face masks!

As I’m sure you know, traveling does a number on your skin — and not in a good way. It leaves you with dry, dehydrated, dull skin and exposes you to a ton of bacteria (planes and other forms of public transport are disgusting). Plus if you are anything like me you are eating way worse than normal while on the road and that alone can cause a handful of problems.

Face masks are great because they are super concentrated and can honestly work wonders.  And with so many different options these days, they can help treat just about every skin care concern you have. After trying countless different options, here are the eight travel face mask I continue to stock up on again and again!

8 Best Travel Face Mask:

SUMMER FRIDAYS JET LAG MASK

WHAT IT IS (via Sephora):
A one-of-a-kind hydrating cream face mask featuring proven, skin-loving ingredients that deliver rich hydration and a radiant complexion in just one application.

If you’ve ever been on social media, you’ve likely seen this one 100 times. I’m a sucker for skin care and will try anything (and everything), especially when it receives a ton of hype like this mask did.

After the first round of sell outs I anxiously awaited a restock and got my hands on it back in March.  After 4-5 months of use, I can definitely understand the hype. It is hydrating and leaves my skin feeling plump and dewy.

I especially love Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask for travel because it comes in a tube instead of a glass or plastic jar, making it convenient and lightweight.  I also love that it doesn’t need to be rinsed off after.  You can even use it as a primer for extra hydration, as I almost always do under some tinted moisturizer anytime I fly! It is the perfect face mask for travel.

SK-II FACIAL TREATMENT MASK

WHAT IT IS (via Sephora):
A cult-favorite sheet mask that immerses your skin in intense hydration.

Another one of the best face masks for travel is the SK-II Facial Treatment Mask. As someone deeply obsessed with SK-II’s Facial Treatment Essence, their SK-II Facial Treatment Mask is a no-brainer. It’s a sheet mask said to be drenched in 1/3 of a small bottle of the essence, resulting in intense hydration.

Like the essence it is a bit on the pricy side, but each package has so much product in it that I find I can actually use the mask twice.

Side note: if you also love their essence, the Son & Park Beauty Water delivers the same results for $30 (340 mL) instead of $179 for less than half of the amount (160 mL). Click here to see the latest prices.

LANCOME ADVANCED GENIFIQUE HYDROGEL MELTING MASK

WHAT IT IS (via Sephora):
A hydrogel sheet mask that gives skin instant radiance, hydration, smoothness, and plumpness in as little as 10 minutes.

Despite not being a big Lancome fan, I LOVE this mask.  It is also a sheet mask but instead of being paper it’s a “hydrogel”.  To be honest I’m not even sure what hydrogel is but it works.

It leaves my skin hydrated and glowy in only ten minutes — more noticeably than anything else I can think of.  If you’re like me and don’t think of skin care when you think of Lancome, just trust me on this.  Order one Lancome mask to test out and I promise you’ll be as shocked as I am.

Pro tip: leave it on for longer than ten minutes (30+) if you have the time.

LANEIGE WATER SLEEPING MASK

WHAT IT IS (via Sephora):
An overnight, moisture-recharging gel mask that quickly absorbs while you sleep to deeply hydrate skin.

These days I am on the world’s biggest K-beauty kick, including everything LANEIGE makes.

I discovered the Water Sleeping Mask when I purchased their Hydrating Trial Kit prior to a trip I didn’t have proper time to prep for.  Everything in the kit is amazing (definitely pick one up for your next trip) and this mask is no exception.

It’s a gel mask which I generally shy away from (I feel like I need cream since I am dry) but in this case I actually really like it. It’s hydrating while also helping with fine lines and wrinkles, plus it has “Calming Sleepscent™” to relax and brighten. In terms of travel masks, this one is great!

HERBIVORE BLUE TANSY AHA + BHA RESURFACING CLARITY MASK

WHAT IT IS (via Sephora):
A truly natural clarifying and cooling gel face mask, features white willow bark (natural BHA), fruit enzymes (natural AHA), and blue tansy to gently exfoliate, smooth, and resurface the skin.

My sister absolutely dies for Herbivore and basically swears there is nothing better to ever exist. She especially loves the Blue Tansy Clarity Mask and after giving me a sample to try I rushed out myself to purchase it, too.

It’s anti-inflammatory, gently exfoliates and gets rid of dead cells, plus it decongests and unclogs pores — all things we certainly need while traveling! I picked up the True Blue Skin Clarifying Duo to bring along on my travels and highly suggest you do, too.

GLAMGLOW THIRSTYMUD™ HYDRATING TREATMENT

WHAT IT IS (via Sephora):
A non-drying hydration mask to deliver instant, extreme moisture.

Glamglow's Thirstymud is another cult favorite I had to try to find out if it was worth the hype or not. The verdict? Since first buying it many years ago, I have never been without it.

They had me at “hyaluronic acid” — I’ll buy just about anything with HA on the ingredient list. But in addition to hydrating, it’s also calming, energizing, replenishing, and more.  Whenever my skin is really angry (super dehydrated, irritated, excessively dry from acne products or Retin-A) this is the first thing I turn to. And it works!

Pro tip: since travel sized products are massively overpriced, I bought the travel sized version one time.  Since then anytime it has ran out I simply refill the travel version with product from my full size version since it’s much more cost effective.

If you need something more inexpensive, The Klog says this Thank You Farmer Back To Relax Soothing Gel Mask is a great dupe for Thirstymud.

OLEHENRIKSEN POWER PEEL TRANSFORMING FACIAL SYSTEM

WHAT IT IS (via Sephora):
A professional-strength three-step resurfacing system to smooth and brighten the look of skin in just one use.

After falling in love with Ole Henriksen's Power Bright system (same idea but for brightening), I decided to branch out and try the Power Peel too.  It’s an at-home professional-strength peel that comes in prepackaged doses, making it the easiest thing in the entire world to throw in your bag. According to Sephora, “Ole Henriksen packaged Power Peel for retail after a celebrity client begged him to make a portable version she could bring with her while shooting on location.”

I keep one of these in my toiletry bag at all times and use it whenever my skin looks and feels like it needs a deep resurfacing, brightening treatment.

Side note: I can get two uses out of each treatment so I try to only use this when I’m somewhere for more than a few days.  That way I can use it, wait a handful of days, and use the other half.

TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL EGG CREAM MASK

WHAT IT IS (via Sephora):
A version of the popular original Egg Cream Mask with added hydrating and brightening benefits.

Another hydrating and brightening mask, Too Cool For School’s Egg Cream Mask isn’t my favorite but it is still effective and also the most inexpensive! It’s a sheet mask so it’s great for travel (single-use, weighs almost nothing) and because of this I always have one on hand in my toiletry bag.

EDITORS NOTE/UPDATE 12/2018: I have a few new (and less expensive) favorite face masks for traveling, so I am going to add them to the list!

Skinfood Hydro Fitting Snail Mask Sheet (Set of 5) is my current #1 obsession and one of best sheet masks for travel. I love sheet masks and these are only $13 for FIVE which is incredibly cheap. Inexpensive often doesn’t equal good but in this case it does! It’s drenched in snail mucin, aiding in healing, firming skin, encouraging cell regeneration, and replenishing moisture. I have bought them at least five times already. Click here to see the latest prices.

Anti-Wrinkle Sleep Cream Pack is a face mask you apply before bed and sleep with on. It’s made of fermented argan oil and lavender oil which will instantly nourish dry and aging skin. Lavender oil before bed of course also helps you sleep, too! I can’t believe how soft this makes my skin feel almost instantly, and even more so when I wake up in the morning. It’s the best hydrating sleeping mask and the best sleeping mask for travel — highly recommend! Click here to see the latest prices.

Skinfood Black Sugar Wash-Off Face Mask is a hydrating exfoliant that can also be used as a mask. Exfoliation is especially important during winter because your skin is drier, flakier, and needs assistance in removing the dead skin. As someone with dry skin I have tons of exfoliants but with this one ringing it at just $10 (!!!) it is my highest recommendation. And unlike many exfoliants, it will leave you feeling hydrated instead of dry. Your skin will never feel smoother than it does after this! Click here to see the latest prices.
